This past weekend my team and I attended the St. Joseph Open.  For several of my students this was their first time competing.  For others it was just another step in their jiu-jitsu journey.

So we (Fury BJJ) had 5 adults and 2 kids competing.  It was a pretty exciting day and we ended up bringing home 4 medals.  That definitely wan't what we were hoping for, but we didn't get shut out and overall everyone did well and learned lots.

For almost the whole year I've neglected my poor blog. Even though I haven't been blogging I have been busy training and trying to make my BJJ better.

So exactly what happened this year for me?

Well in February we moved back to Macon, MO and opened up a gym out of a local fitness center.  It was very exciting & it felt great to get back on the mats full time again.  Macon's small so obviously the classes at the gym were small.  We did get some dedicated students and slowly we have started to get more training partners.

The End is Here.....

As I sit here writing this the last few moments of 2014 are literally slipping away.  No partying for me; I'm too old lol.  I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of 2015.  Why?  Because, I am excited for what 2015 will bring and want to ring it in with a vengeance.  Yep, at midnight I plan on knocking out some pullups, sit ups, and calf raises.  I'll finish off the day with burpees, push ups, leg drags, and some jab counters.

Looking back 2014 wasn't too bad of a year.  My kids, husband, and I are all healthy.  My mom is still with us and fighting the cancer she was diagnosed with in 2013.  Our little patch business is growing and in 2015 we will be adding a line of BJJ gis.  So if you haven't yet make sure to check out BJJ Supply and keep your eyes open for the Freeroller "il Toro" gi which will be available soon.

Ok, so technically it's still Thanksgiving, but Black Friday has begun.  I drove by Walmart and it was PACKED!  I'm not really into the madness of Black Friday so I tend to stick to the internet for shopping.  Over the past few days my Facebook feed has been FLOODED with companies advertising their Black Friday sales and up coming new gear so I decided, "Why not create a gift guide?"

So here it is, the first part of my gift guide, where I'm gonna give you several gis available that would be on my Christmas list.  I'm not gonna cover every gi available or give you a bunch of gift codes, because there are a couple of places that have more comprehensive coverage than I could get.   If you're looking for Black Friday Codes then check out the BJJ New & Upcoming Gear Page and for the latest in everything check out the BJJ New & Upcoming Gear Offerings Group.

I've been self employed since I was 19 years old.  My first business was a basketball camp I ran by myself where I instructed 49 girls that summer.  Since then (over the past 12 years) I have owned a restaurant, t-shirt shop, used car dealership, motel, custom print shop, etc...  People say that you should find your passion and figure out how to make money doing it.  At that time my passion was basketball.  Now my passion is BJJ so I'm very intrigued in the business aspect of the art.

One area that I'm pretty interested is in the event side of things like Jiu-Jitsu tournaments, MMA shows, and events like Metamoris.  The people running them want you to believe that there is no money in putting on the likes of these events.  Maybe that's true and maybe it isn't.  Let me tell you though if I was running a MMA promotion or a BJJ event that's what I would want people to think as well.  It's a great business strategy to make sure that there isn't a lot of competition (mostly on a local level).  When you get on a bigger scale if you don't have the money and the knowledge then you aren't even going to get off the ground.
